One Week Down

Well, it's been a week since I have begun all of this and I am happy to report that it was a very productive week. I have lost 6.4 pounds and I feel fantastic. I know there is a long way to go and I also know that as I lose more and more weight, it will become harder to shed the pounds but to see such quick results is always a good thing.

I am hoping that over the weekend I can continue my good habits and get to the 10 pound mark.

The one thing I have found interesting is that when you are counting calories, it is amazing how much food it takes to get to a 2,200 calorie/day diet when you are actually paying attention to what you eat. The last two days, I have actually had to eat more than I wanted to so I could get to my limit. It's amazing. I typically get home with still 1,500 calories to eat. That's a lot when you are eating healthy.

Well, tonight I am off to the gym. Yesterday my legs were feeling heavy and I only got 35 miutes (450 calories) in on the eliptical. Today, I am hoping for get back to the 50 minutes (600 calorie) range. We will see.

Monday Morning Weight Check

I am down almost 4 pounds already at 291.4. Good start but a long ways to go. Today is going to be a touch test. I am going to have to get through the day at work without sneaking off to the vending machine.

Day 3 - Early Results

I know it's early and I know it's mostly water weight but I stepping on the scale this morning and had already lost 2.5 pounds. Pretty sweet if you ask me.

Yesterday was a good day for me to prove to myself that I can actually cut down my eating. I was hungry and a little crabby but I forced myself to keep my food intake down. Today, I am going to work hard to do that again plus I am going to the gym in about and hour and I have a 10:30 soccer game tonight. If I can keep it up, I should see some results again tomorrow.

For anyone intereted, sparkpeople.com has been a great resource to track everything and get some help when needed. Youl should check it out.

Day 2 - Let's get ready to rumble!!

Today, I hit the gym for the first time in my new weight loss plan. It was a pretty good workout. I must tell you that cardio with an ingrown toenail really sucks but I got through my 30 minutes on the eliptical without too much trouble. I burned 405 calories and feel really good right now. I then did abs and some light arms but nothing too difficult.

Today should be a good day for losing weight. I have a ton of yard work to do a little later and then my wife and I have both agreed to go on 2 miles walks again this evening. Start strong...remain strong.

I'm going to really concentrate on not eating just because I am bored this weekend. I know that when I get bored, my first instinct is to go eat. If I can beat that, I will be over one huge hump.

I'll jump on the scale tomorrow to see where I am. Talk to you then.

Day 1 - Time to get serious about a change

Last year, I had some health issues. I was labeled as pre-diabetic and I weighed in at a whopping 314 pounds at my heaviest. Well, the fear that the doctor put in me about the health risks I was causing myself, caused me to get my ass in gear. I lost 40 pounds over the following 4 months and life was good. Then it got cold and I started making excuses about not going out to exercise again and today, I have put most of my weight back on and am at 295 pounds.

Well, I am officially sick of this and it is honestly time for a change. I am not nearly as unhealthy as I was this time last year. I go to the gym about 4 times a week, I play soccer every Sunday but I am just not eating right. Well, with the help of my wonderful wife, that is about to change as well.

This blog to going to documnet my journey through this battle to reach my goal weight of 220. My plan is to go to the gym 6 days a week. Play soccer one day a week and then go back to cutting as many carbs as possible. That seemed to work for me last year. I am going to focus on cardio but I will also be lifting as well.

In the past year, I have quit smoking, quit dipping and I did that without too much trouble so there is no reason to believe that I shouldn't be able to change certain behaviors in my life that need some serious changing.

I just celebrated my 7 year anniversary. My wife and I plan on going to an all-inclusive resort for our 10 anniversary. I know it's three years away but I am hoping to be able to walk on the beach. take my shirt off and get some of the looks I used to get when I was an all-state soccer player in high school. I know I can do it and I look forward to sharing this with whoever decides to read it.
